Creatures of the Caribbean

For my negotiated project in my third year of university, I chose to look into the problem of diversity in children's books focusing on race and culture. I was inspired by my Caribbean heritage and wanted to create an educational book that would introduce children to Caribbean mythology and folklore as it is not widely covered in the market. My audience was children of any race from the ages of 5 to 7, but in particular, I wanted to engage with second and third generation Caribbean-British children. Using a mix of traditional and digital mediums, I created a book cover and three double page spreads.

BLOOM- A silent graphic novel

I created BLOOM for a graphic novel project during university. In this brief, I was asked to imagine a world where fracking had caused residents of the English countryside to be infected with a mysterious airborne virus that made them see other people and the world around them change and distort. Scared, the people from the countryside escape to the city where they bring the virus with them. I then had to create a four page chapter in response. I chose to use the concept of rewilding to distort my character's view of the world. She enters the London underground and begins to experience these hallucinations.
